Fox Sports' Jeff Goodman, who has been doing an outstanding job lately of scooping the big BC basketball stories, is now reporting that Niagara assistant coach Akbar Waheed will replace new Hartford head coach John Gallagher on Donahue's staff.
Like most, if not all, of you, I hadn't heard of him until a few minutes ago. He spent his basketball playing career at Niagara and has coached there ever since he graduated in 1999. That would put him at about 33 years old right now. For those that didn't want another Ivy guy, you got your wish.
In any case, I'm sure Waheed will be a fine addition to BC's staff. My Cornell people have raved about both Donahue and his assistant coach, Nat Graham, and all indications are that Joe Jones will be a solid recruiter and a fine lieutenant for the head coach.
Their top priorities right now have to be getting the players in shape and continuing to work on incoming recruits Kevin Noreen and Papa Samba Ndao to stay at BC, as Joe Trapani suggested they were.
