Week 8 in the ACC: Picks

Florida State at North Carolina
Line: UNC -2.5

The Seminoles, for all intents and purposes, are already done, and North Carolina isn't looking too good in their division, either.  Still, one of these teams is going to get their first ACC win of the season.  Both teams had a bye week to mull things over, and the Tar Heels are at home, so I think they will send the 'Noles to their 4th loss in a row.  Pick: North Carolina

#11 Georgia Tech at Virginia
Line: GT -5.5

This game is actually quite interesting.  Georgia Tech just knocked off the Hokies last weekend, while Virginia has recovered yet again from a terrible start to begin their ACC schedule at 2-0.  The Cavaliers have played great defense in their last three games, while Georgia Tech has been on a roll since their sole loss to Miami.  Picking this one is a little tricky since both teams have momentum, but I must go with the favorite.  Pick: Georgia Tech

Maryland at Duke
Line: Duke -5.5

Not a great matchup here.  Maryland is a weak 2-5 while Duke is only a mediocre 3-3 themselves.  The Dookies, however, have shown some flashes of being decent this season, while Maryland only did that in beating Clemson.  I don't like the Terps on the road, so I'll take the home team.  Pick: Duke

Boston College at Notre Dame
Line: ND -8

Pick coming on Friday, as always.

Clemson at #8 Miami
Line: Miami -5

This is another one that looks interesting.  Clemson surely isn't a bad team, but they haven't played like a very good one, either.  Hopes were high for the Tigers this year, but 3-3 is all they could muster to this point, despite getting a big home win last weekend against Wake.  The Hurricanes, on the other hand, have only one loss and that was to a very highly-ranked Virginia Tech team on the road.  After two weeks of playing token opponents, Jacory Harris and Randy Shannon are ready to get back to business.  Miami has taken down some big opposition this year at home, and I believe they will do so again.  Pick: Miami

Wake Forest at Navy
Line: Navy -2

Believe it or not, the Midshipmen are the favorites in this one.  Navy has put together a pretty solid team this year at 5-2 (while sporting a 3-0 home record).  Wake, meanwhile, are coming off of their worst loss of the season: a 35-point spanking by Clemson.  The Deacs are 0-2 on the road so far.  I want to take Wake because I'm sure they'll do much better than at Clemson, but I can't shake the feeling that Navy will pull it off.  Pick: Navy

  1. Hope you are right on the Miami/Clemson matchup,
    Clemson needs another ACC loss.
