NC State at BC: Pick

Tom O'Brien returns to Boston College yet again to face his old defensive coordinator at Alumni Stadium in a game featuring two teams with widely-varying levels of success over the course of the year.

The NC State Wolfpack begun the year with a loss to South Carolina in which they scored three points.  After beating the crap out of two non-conference sacrificial lambs, the Wolfpack won a close game against a decent Pitt team at home.  Since then, they have lost their first two games in the ACC and are looking to avoid 0-3.  They ride into Massachusetts having just been beaten by 21 points at home by a mediocre Duke team.  The Eagles, on the other hand, started the season with two beatdowns, then put forth one of their worst offensive performances of all time in Clemson.  After that, the Eagles won two close ACC games at home in which their opposition closed big second-half deficits, and got obliterated at Virginia Tech.  The point, if there is one, is that either one of these teams can play a great game, but either one can play a poor game just as easily.

The Hen came back to BC once before in 2007, when BC and coach Jeff Jagodzinski handed him his ass by a 37-17 score.  In 2008, BC went to Carter-Finley and took a close one from the Pack, 38-31.  NC State quarterback Russell Wilson has truly emerged this year, but it will still be a difficult road test (in only their second road game of the year).

It's very difficult to get a read on this game, because as I've alluded to, both teams have been up and down.  I would be inclined, however, to take BC based upon their 4-0 home record this year (despite the Wake and FSU games coming close to slipping away) and the fact that they responded to their last abominable loss with a win.

That, and I just want BC to beat TOB.
