Last week: 9-3 -- if you had told me that only one of UNC, Maryland, and VT would win, Maryland would not have been the team I guessed.
Duke at Wake Forest
Line: WF -5
Kind of an interesting game. OK, OK, not really, but one of these teams is going to go 2-0, and 1-0 in ACC play. Duke had a little trouble with Elon last week, while Wake Forest bombed Presbyterian. I think the home team wins again. Pick: Wake Forest
Georgia Tech at Kansas
Line: GT -14
Last weekend, Kansas pulled one of the biggest epic fails of the day, scoring only three points in Turner Gill’s debut at home against North Dakota State (a pitiful 6-3 loss). I’m sure they have a better game in them this time, but it’s looking like an ugly year for the Jayhawks and Georgia Tech probably won’t show them any mercy. Pick: Georgia Tech
James Madison at Virginia Tech

The Dukes may not be up to Boise State’s level, but a game’s a game, right? You have to feel for JMU, though: they’re going to feel the Hokies’ wrath from Monday night. Pick: Virginia Tech
Kent State at Boston College
Line: BC -17
Pick coming tomorrow
Florida State at Oklahoma
Line: OU -7.5
I don’t mean to hate on the Sooners, because honestly I’m ambivalent to them, but I’m still not entirely sure what they’ve done to deserve the high ranking they’ve had since the preseason. At least FSU looked good in winning last weekend. I’ll go with the ACC team in an upset. Pick: Florida State
Presbyterian at Clemson

Last weekend, Presbyterian (at Wake Forest) got slammed hard enough so that the Methodists and Lutherans could feel it. I doubt the Tigers will be any more inviting. Pick: Clemson
Miami-FL at Ohio State
Line: OSU -9.5
Good game here. Both of these teams took care of business last weekend against lesser opponents, and both have good rankings, so this is a tough call. I’m going to have to give the edge to the home team & higher-ranked team. Pick: Ohio State
Morgan State at Maryland

Who'd have pictured the Terps on their way to 2-0, well, besides Terps fans? In any case, they will get there. Pick: Maryland
North Carolina State at Central Florida
Line: UCF -3
UCF actually looked really good in their opening game against South Dakota (FCS), and believe it, they're the favorites. NC State did as well against Western Carolina (also FCS). Looking down NC State’s schedule, I see a lot of potential losses there, but I still think it would take a solid effort for the Knights to beat Russell Wilson and company. In spite of that, in an abrupt change from what I originally wrote here, I will play the favorite. Pick: UCF
Virginia at Southern California
Line: USC -18.5
I thought Richmond would give UVA a close game; they didn’t. I thought Hawaii would get blown out by USC; they didn’t. In any case, the Wahoos aren't on the same level as the Trojans, and SC won’t lose their home opener. Pick: USC
Are you picking game winners, or against the spread?
ReplyDeleteStraight up winners. I give the point spread just for people to see who's favored.
