FSU puts BC out of their misery 2 innings early

The day began with much promise for the Boston College Eagles on their heels of one of their most dramatic victories in the last several years.  It ended with a disgraceful defeat that saw Boston College eliminated from the ACC Tournament.

Not only did Boston College lose 12-2, but this was a "mercy rule" game -- Florida State took a 10-run lead in the bottom of the 7th, and per ACC rules, the remainder of the game was canceled.  Being honest, BC wasn't coming back, anyway, and the pitching probably would have given up a few more before all was said and done.

Starter John Leonard was not good at all, having given up 6 runs in 2.1 innings, done on nine hits and a hit batter.  Not to be outdone, the BC bullpen also gave up 6 runs, including the "mercy rule walkoff."  The BC offense apparently didn't save enough runs for today, either, and the combination of all of these three things make for a disaster.

This was an embarrassing loss for the Eagles; embarrassing enough that it could knock BC out of the NCAA Tournament.  On Wednesday I thought we were out, yesterday I thought we were in, and today I don't know.  These are the troubles with not only being on the bubble, but literally sitting right on the border.  We will find out BC's fate in a few days and neither outcome would surprise me.
