East Carolina hung in there for the majority of the game, but UNC got the better of the Pirates by a score of 31-17. 433 yards of offense helped put Butch Davis's team at 3-0.
Boston College at ClemsonIt was not a pretty day for Boston College, in terms of weather and their performance, as Clemson defeated the Eagles 25-7. BC gained an anemic 51 yards of offense in their game, wasting a strong effort by the defense.
Duke at #22 KansasThe Jayhawks were all over the Blue Devils, beating the ACC road team 44-16. Duke amassed nearly 400 yards of offense and controlled the time of possession, but Todd Reesing's three touchdowns alone were enough to seal the deal.
The season is starting to look like a disaster for the Terps, as they fell to the MTSU Blue Raiders 32-31 at home. A chip-shot field goal by Alan Gendreau as time expired gave the ACC an embarrassing loss to the Sun Belt conference (after what was almost one last week to the CAA).
The Cornhuskers led down the stretch but gagged it up at the last minute, giving the Hokies a 16-15 win. Tyrod Taylor took VT down the field inside the final minute of the game to clinch the comeback. Virginia Tech is almost certain to move up in the polls with a few top teams biting the dust.
Virginia at Southern MississippiThe Cavaliers played far better than I expected, but still lost to the Golden Eagles 37-34, falling to 0-3 on the season. Virginia led in this one late but much like the William and Mary game, they gave it away in the second half.
Of course, the margin wasn't as big this week, but there was no TOB trap game in Raleigh as his team won 45-14. QB Russell Wilson set an NCAA record for most passes without an interception (329).
Elon may be a ranked team in the FCS, but they were still no match for Wake Forest, falling to the Demon Deacons 35-7. That only score for the Phoenix came in the fourth quarter when the Deacs were already on cruise control.
I expected Florida State would play better, but this effort blew me away. They went to Provo and beat the crap out of the #7 Cougars, 54-28. The loss most likely busted Brigham Young's chances of earning a BCS berth and also snapped their 18-game home win streak. The difference between FSU in Week 2 and 3 is night and day.
The Yellow Jackets did not respond well to their near-choke against Clemson, barely showing up for the game and getting pounded 33-17. Miami looked pretty damn unbeatable as they doubled up the Jackets in total yardage. The 'Canes are back.
